Update July 1, 2009: CES requirement is now required for new applicants starting July 1, 2009, and NEW application form must be used. Disregard this post.

Update March 1,2009: Vermont has done away with the CHED/CES requirement. They revised the last page of the application to have the Licensing Authority (PRC) verify that the applicants nursing school is accredited by the government’s regulating body. In short, no need for CES/CHED verification, unless told to do so.

Recently, nurses who applied for licensure at Vermont Board of Nursing as early as August 2008 received notification from Vt about the need to verify the nursing program they graduated from. Its either they fulfill the CES Healthcare Profession/Science Report or  request the government agency of their country to certify that their school is accredited/approved. In the Philippines, that agency is Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

To get clarification about the requirements and how to go about it, I contacted Vermont and they gave me a favorable response:

Fortunately the CHED website is back online, hopefully we have all of our questions answered about approved nursing programs by the end of this week.

If we are able to verify your school on the CHED website you will not need a CES report to complete the application process through Vermont.

So, to nurses who received the same notice from Vermont, dont fulfill the CES Report yet. Let’s wait a week or two about this development. I’m hopeful you dont have to shell another $328 to get your Vermont eligibility.
