How to apply: NCLEX Application

NCLEX Application Summary:
1. Determine which state you want to apply. There are many factors that you have to consider when choosing where to start your NCLEX application, sometimes depending on your present circumstance. For example, if you just had your NLE results and don’t have your license yet, there are states that allow you to process your NCLEX application and take the NCLEX without your PRC license. Then there are states that require CGFNS Exam, CES, fingerprint card, etc.
2. Visit the website of your chosen state. You can visit ncsbn.org for the complete list of State Boards’ websitesthat accepts NCLEX application of foreign nurse. Or you can search it on the web.
3. Download/request NCLEX Application Forms, Instructions, Fingerprint Cards.NCLEX application processing and requirements vary from state to state. Please read and follow the instructions carefully to avoid delay in the processing of your NCLEX application. If you have questions, you can read my other posts or drop a comment to ask me.
4. Submit your completed NCLEX application(forms, documents, payments, etc.) by mailing it to your chosen state board of nursing. Processing time of your NCLEX application varies from state to state; some states would approve it as early as 2 months while others would make you eligible in 6-8 months. So it would help if you constantly follow up your status through email (or website, if any) provided by the state.
5. If you are eligible, register with Pearsonvue for NCLEX-RN Testing. There are different modes of registering, but doing it online thru pearsonvue website is the fastest(you can check my post about Pearsonvue registration). After registration you will receive 2 emails, the first confirming your registration and payment of $200, and the second, your Authorization to Test(ATT).
6. Schedule your NCLEX exam. If you prefer to take the test in Makati, Philippines, you can schedule your NCLEX exam by calling Pearsonvue hotline (Asia-Pacific, +60383189964). Have your ATT ready, they’re asking you Candidate Identification number and ATT number. You also have to pay $150 for International Testing Fee thru Credit Card(VISA, MasterCard, American Express, JCB). Confirmation email will be automatically sent to you after scheduling.
7. Take the Test. Bring your ATT and Passport, plus other valid IDs. Of course, make sure you’re ready before taking the NCLEX.

x Transcript (both theory and clinical hours) sent directly to the Board from your school of general nursing. THE BOARD DOES NOT ACCEPT TRANSCRIPTS SUBMITTED BY APPLICANTS.
x Clinical portion of transcript or RLE
x Educational Breakdown Form
I have sent them separately. Actually the Request for Transcript or Packet B was sent ahead of Packet A.
I have requested again the aforementioned documents. What should I do next? Help pls. Thanks very much.

Depende sa state. Yes you can mail it from there, or you can have your sister mail it, basta separate sa school docs.

There is no reciprocity in the USA for licenses, only for NCLEX passing.
Example: take NCLEX for California License and the fact that you passed NCLEX will be recognized in all states.
If you want to move your license from one state to another you have to process an endorsement which is very complicated and expensive.
I’ve been in the US for a long time and I see a lot of my fellow pinoy nurses coming to California because they got stuck. So many of them want to go to other states but the endorsement is not possible or too expensive so they took employment here, completely away from their family in other states.
If you want to be a nurse in a specific area in the USA then you need to apply straight to that state. You can’t just pass NCLEX for California and move your license anywhere.
One girl is crying here every day because her family is on the other side of the country and she is stuck here away from them until she can finish her contract and endorse her license to move there.
Don’t be stuck in her place.
I have heard that there is a company there in the Philippines that takes care of NCLEX documentation. It would be better to use their services even if it costs a little more.
I’ll ask my cousin to check on it and give me the contact details so I can post here.

1. pede ba mag apply ng CES kahit wala pang local license (mag board exam pa lang ako ng nov 2009? tinatanong ko kasi immigrant ako, sana kung habang wala pa license ay pede na mag apply para umandar ang papel while waiting for board result, nabasa ko kasi required ang CES sa arizona.
2. nabasa ko po na Vermont does not require PRC. Would you recommend for me to apply in Vermont, then get a reciprocity/endorsement to work in Arizona? sa Vermont, di na po ba need ang CES or same thing lang din?

1. No, ces requires license validation.
2. Vermont requires CES, same with Arizona. So apply directly sa Az na lg.

You have to write a letter to California Board of Nursing requesting them to forward your NCLEX Candidate Report (Test result) to Vermont for endorsement. You have to attach payment of $60 payable to Board of Registered Nursing.

sir Nonoy. ask ko lng po. eligible na kasi ako sa Cali board of nursing since september 18 2008 pa. and nung june 2009 lang ako nag bayad and nagregister sa pearson vue. nareceive ko email (receipt acknowledgement noon pang Aug 20 2009. ngaun more than 2 months. wala pa ATT ko. i called ASia pacific region and they told me na wala pa sila narerecieve electronic approval from cali. kaya ndi nila ma send ATT ko. i paid pearson vue kasi through mail and cashier’s check. ganun ba talaga usually delays na eexperience pag ganun method ng paying? what should i do? kinukulit ko na din Ca board of nursing pero lagi busy lines. and ayaw naman mag reply sa mga email ko! pls Sir Nonoy. i need help. i dont know what to do na T_T

hi nurse noy, i want to thank you first for being so helpful to us beginners. anyway, im applyinng for nclex-vermont. but first i chose cali, but i change my mind since they’re requiring a US-SSN before handing me a license (if i passed). my q’s are:
if i take cali, and passed exam, and i will ask for endorsement in vermont, WILL VERMONT ISSUE ME LICENSE?
2nd, nurse nonoy, which is faster in application, vermont or cali? i heard that vermont is 2-3 mos. while cali takes 6mos. to reply.? which one is faster?
and lastly, will it be wise to have agency to assist me? will it be wise decision? or they were not really a big help?

1. Yes, you just have to endorse your nclex results to them. They will also require you CES.
2. California is faster nowadays, mga 1-2 mos lang.

is it really true that new mexico does not require a local license? i actually have already mailed the application forms and i am having second thoughts whether to mail my board certificate since that would mean i would have to pay an additional fee for mailing again. or does it matter if i send them the board certificate anyway? will it make the processing faster? lastly, i would also like to ask if you know how long is the average time for processing (new mexico)?

I suggest you apply directly to florida, kung yun talaga ang intended state of practice mo. Ganun din naman, you’ll be paying for endorsement, so magastos din if you apply at cali and endorse to florida.

im going to CA using fiancee visa. with regards to my app.
in requesting a tOR sa school i’ll be using my lastname. but sa application form ko husbands name na gagamitin ko coz i;ll be getting married once i get there.. need ko ba mag attached na marriage contract???.. whats the best thing to do?? to use my maiden name first and apply for change of name??
or to file using my husbands lastname and attached a copy of marriage contract in packet A??

I pssed nclex last Aug 2008 under CA-BON and im afraid that i couldn’t able to apply for a visa screen before my exam result expires because i don’t have my ielts yet. hi sir…ive been carefully processing the requirements and all for CES and NCLEX Vermont because i dont want any mistakes because i heard bankdraft money sent wont be refunded…so , i havent mail my CES application yet and the NCLEX application for vermont..are these the only two that i’d have to mail internationally , or do i have to mail my registration at pearsonvue with the $200 fee together..so meaning my question is do i have to mail 3 applications 1)ces 2)nclex vermont 3)pearsonvue in order for me to receive my eligibility and ATT??….i really need to know because im realy confused on when to pay for pearsonvue, because a friend of mine told me i wont receive an ATT if i wont pay pearsonvue first…..

First of all, you have to apply for CES(i suggest, online). Tapos kung ok na, thats the time you apply at Vermont. Tapos kung eligible ka na, saka na lang sa pearsonvue for att… Read my post on how to apply at vermont with CES.

Complete your CES first. Tapos apply ka sa CTS, kasi may babayaran ka pa doon. Tapos process mo rin ang fingerprint. Ill post step by step processing in Illinois kung di na ko busy.

sir nonoy..i have another question. did you hear about rumors that california exam is difficult than other state..? and that new mexico would be practical since theres no need to endorse to other 23 state listed and the exam is not that difficult compared to california

Hi sir, im Mr. Espiritu and i just want to ask, what is the fastest way for me to follow-up my eligibility for Nclex exam? my transcript of records was sent by my school last oct.7,2009 and my application was sent according to the courier last Nov.2,2009 and til now im still waiting for it, i’m just wondering if it was really received by the BON because my cousin has already received her eligibility, the fact that I was the first one who applied for it.tnx sir! waiting for your kind reply

Hi,
I want to ask if you know ways on how to follow up Illinois Board of Nursing about my application in a fastest way. I had my application April of 2009, had the CES evaluation and was able to send the fingerprint card to accurate biometrics too. I am wondering why until now I don’t have any eligibility. I tried to contact them when I am in the philippines but it didn’t work at all. I really want to know how I could check out on the status of my application. Should I schedule my exam now even without eligibility or wait another year from the Illinois board? Please help me..

Call them. If you want to take NCLEX ASAP you can register with pearsonvue for ATT.
