NCLEX Application: California Board of Registered Nursing
UPDATE Since April 26, 2010: California now requires SSN on NCLEX Application, Renewal, Retake. They won’t accept your application anymore without it. Read my post about it here.
California Board of Registered Nursing is one of the State Boards that don’t require CGFNS certification or evaluation, so it is much cheaper to apply. If you want to be licensed in California thru NCLEX Application, here are some of the things you need to consider:
- California NCLEX Application forms and instructions are downloadable from their website.
- Criminal Background Check is a requirement. Applicants need to submit filled up FBI Fingerprint Cards for checking or you can have Live Scanning if you are present in California.
- Nursing Education Evaluation and License Verification are sent directly to California Board of Registered Nursing for evaluation, must be comparable to State Board’s standard.
- They now require SSN; failure to submit means rejection of application.
- Payment of $126 is made thru demand draft, check or money order payable to Board of Registered Nursing.
- Processing time of your California eligibility ranges from 1-3 months.

One fingerprint card would suffice. Just make sure it is not folded, crumpled. Also, fingerprints and entries must be in black ink.

I suggest you use any hard envelope so that fingerprint card wont be folded or bended.

Use the same mailing address, dates in all your docs. Kung may discrepancy print a new form and fill it up.

In the first page of the Application Forms and Instructions, its $126 for Application and Fingerprinting. Yung $200 later na, thats for NCLEX Registration sa Pearsonvue. If you dont have your license yet, you have to send a letter of explanation stating that you already passed the NLE. You can attach your certificate of passing/board rating as a proof, and PRC issues those certificates sooner than the license.

You can follow the steps I posted above. Regarding the license, you just have to make an explanation letter that you dont have Philippine license coz you’re now at Ca and dont intend to practice nursing in the Phils.

Look for the change of name form in California website. Complete it and attach your Marriage Certificate and send to California Board of Nursing.

Based on their instructions, the school must directly send those docs. But since most of our schools here dont send them but instead return those docs to nurses, you must make it appear as though the school mailed them by sending it separately, and from the city where your school is located.

Yes, you must send the RLE summary. It’s indicated in the instructions that you must send transcripts and all coursework. Again, let the school send those or mail it separately if you’re the one to send it.

hi..i’ve registered to pearson online two weeks ago for the request of my ATT but i haven’t received it yet.i already called them 3times and say that they will send it but still, i haven’t received it yet. i found out that i cannot receive any message to my email because it should have a .ph at the end of my email add to be able to receive emails which before i don’t have.what should i do?what i have registered is the one without the .ph in the end.do i nid to col pearsonvue agen and tell them to include the .ph or i have to call the california state board for them to correct it?hope u reply as soon as possible. thanks

The application process takes, on average, 4-6 months. Try mo lang rhael.

Step 1, you should contact Cali BRN to rectify any error in your email add. Then go to this link of pearsonvue.com: http://pearsonvue.com/contact/asiapac/customerservice/ Fill in your correct details (esp. the correct email add) and on the comment box tell them that you have registered for NCLEX-RN Testing and paid $200 but havent received your Registration Confirmation and ATT due to incorrect email. Then kindly request them to send those emails to your correct email address(specify). Wait 1-2 days, they usually send it.

hi, i apply for application in california 2 or 3 years back, but i didnt get the exam coz my agency do not pay for my exam and they dont schedule mr to take the exam, however, according to my agency they send my application form in the said state, now there is a form question like this “Have you ever applied for RN licensure in California?
If yes, Month __________ Year .__________” am o going to check yes?… and am i going to submit new forms to apply for an applcation?

Yes and yes. And indicate the Month and Year you applied. California discards incomplete application after a year so you have to send new one.

Well, mailing your application would be faster if you’re there already. But you have to process school docs and forms here in the phils.
Is your SSN still valid? If it is then you can use that.
It depends on the CA BRN if they will accept that reason, but we had applicants before who used the same reason and was approved.

Ipapadala mo both, but separate mailing. Then they will review your papers and make you eligible to test. Then thats the time you register with pearsonvue for nclex testing.

@jhecka, just follow the procedure ive discussed. Yes, yung payment mo(bankdraft, checks in US currency) isama mo sa Application, fingerprint, photocopy of license (Packet A).

good day kuya nonoy,,i just wanna ask some few questions hope you dont mind me asking..
i am a fresh graduate,(OCTOBER 2008 batch),i am not planning to take the local board exam because i am currently in the process of my K1/fiancee visa..maybe late this year i will be going to the states CA..
1.should i still take the local board here?
2.can i just take the NCLEX there instead since my visa has been approved?
3.what could be the requirements to be passed for me to take the NCLEX?
4.is it really possible to take the NCLEX there even if you didnt take the local board yet?

You have to go through the application process before taking the NCLEX. If you want to apply at CA Board of Nursing, you can explain to them that you dont intend to practice nursing in the Phils thats why you didnt take the NLE. Please read the instructions above on how to go thru with the process.

kuya nonoy i already had all the requirements including the finger print card. ijust got my packet B requirements and they gave me a long mailing envelop, i was so confuse and i ask the registrar kung kasya ba dito ang Foreign cert,Request for Transcript form + TOR and RLE Records,Breakdown of Educational Program for International Nursing Programs Form and Nursing Program Verification Form. ang dami dami nun di kya maloko ang papadalhan mo nun kc putok ang itsura ng envelop nun. Dba ang sabi 9X12 yung bingay nla parng 4×10.sabi ng registrar di nman daw nila pinapansin ang folder. is it true kuya nonoy?wala tlga ko twala sa skul.

i already passed the nclex ca board since 2005 and still waiting for my visa apointment and i’ve already requested for an extension of my nclex pass to be considered until sept09. Kung d pa rin ako makapasok and makaget ng ssn by then, pwede p kaya ako magrequest uli ng another extension ng pass mark ko? with the current trend of visa processing and retrogression mukhang malabo pa akong matawag for interview. what do you suggest i do?

Accdg to CA BRN Instruction, ‘transcripts are required from all colleges and/or universities you attended that reflect courses required for a degree in nursing, including general education course requirements and all nursing courses.’ So we have to follow that.

It must appear that the docs came from the school, so pagmaliit yung envelope pagkasyahin mo na lang. Anyway if you mail it by courier, they usually enclose it in another pack.

Eligibility in California is used to be at 2 years. But Ive heard reports recently that it was shortened to a year. But the ATT is valid for a year. Just check your eligibility letter.

In the retake form, use your married name but be sure to fill up the ‘Previous Name’ field with your full maiden name. You can also attach this form from CA BRN. As a proof attach a copy of marriage certificate with the forms and payment. It would be easier for CA BRN if you attach a simple letter explaining your status.
